In 2008 he left Manchester United and joined Real Madrid for a fee that made him the most costly player ever in the history of football. 
Ronaldo had won Ballon Dor award for 3 times one less than his biggest competitor Lionel Messi, who won this for 4 consecutive times. Ronaldo had been the highest goal scorer with 51 goals in one Spanish league season
